So last post, I mentioned something about being "lucky" about the wildlife in our area. Maybe this little garden snake read my blog and thought that "our area" meant "inside our home" because that's where we found it yesterday afternoon. Needless to say, I was pretty worthless from my position standing on top of a chair; #1 Girl was also no help since she vanished into her bedroom and shut the door. Thank goodness for the boys! Animal Magnet lived up to his nickname and used one of his nets to scoop the snake up and take it outside (snake, by "our area," that's what I meant: outdoors), with the Dimpled One's help. Also, we have a dog and a cat, who could've taken care of the snake problem while I was away, but I guess they were too busy sleeping to notice a snake slithering through the house.

The rest of the day was much more boring, which is how I like it. I didn't get much knitting done -- still working on the doll -- but I paged through The Forgotten Arts & Crafts. I picked it up at the library, but if I can find a copy to buy, I definitely will. It covers just about everything you can think of as craft, including many I've never heard of or given much thought to: fork-making, for instance. And of course, there's a section devoted to textile crafts, which was my favorite part of the book. If you love history, old photographs of actual people engaged in making, and reading about crafting, you'll love this book, as it's full of all three. I'm going to hate taking this one back to the library.

That book looks great! I will have to try and find one as well. I love reading about crafts, and what people used to make - which now we all just buy.
That book sounds super fun!
The snake, not as much fun ;)
Glad you were able to return it to its natural habitat.
That book is going on my wish list!!
I have that book and it is fantastic, I managed to get mine when a library was clearing out old books but i've never seen it for sale anwhere.
We have tons of snakes OUTSIDE, I've never had one inside. I hope that my husband is home if I ever found one....Frodo would just paw it repeatedly. Love your knitting :)
The book sounds like a very interesting read, I'll have to see if our library carries it. A snake in the house would have sent me over the edge, I really don't do well with them. Bad enough we had a few in our yard...
Ok Ms. Del...you are trying to start something with that book...lol
Your little men are so courageous... now if it happened on my side of town... I would still be in a catatonic state... seriously.
I was hoping for a snake picture......!!!!!!!!!!! Anxious to see the doll!
Oh dear - snake in the house is never a fun thing. We would find dead ones in the basement once in a while when our old cat was still living. I think if I saw one in my kitchen I would die....
I once found a 5 foot bull snake on my kitchen counter right by the coffee maker, I was ready to move!
I really don't do snakes well. :)
i'd take boring over snake in the house any old day. really. and the book...sounds right up my alley!
hee hee del, i'm sorry for giggling. i can only imagine it there. i like snakes, luckily, in africa we've had to sleep with them in tents. when they get thrown out, they come right back in. :)
i'm going to look for that book!
Once had my cat bring a grass snake in the house. Caught me by surprise. Is that the John Seymour book?
I can just picture those lazy pets of yours sleeping in the midst of the pandemonium. Too funny! I used to work at a petting zoo during college and had to handle the snakes.
I am going to have to hunt down that book at my library.
So, you have an animal magnet too? Mine is 16 with long brown hair and loves her accessories... who woulda thought?
Looks like a fabulous read... I'll have to check this one out.
Blessings, Debbie
Eep! That would have scared the living daylights out of me. Snakes, little furry things, anything with more than two legs...eek!
Gah snake! (I was looking for it in your knitting - oh the horror!). Hope you have a lovely snake free weekend.
My possum in the silverware drawer still beats your snake....;->
A snake in the house! What an adventure!
I totally would have been like you and ran for dear life at the sight of a snake. Absolutely!
That book you're reading sounds amazing! Fork making! I never would have thought!
Ok, snakes - hmm. I can do indoor slugs (yuk), but snakes --- noooooo. I'd have been up there on the chair with you.
The book looks good - I must see if it's available over on this side of the Atlantic. (But your shawl a few posts earlier looks lovelier still - I meant to comment then, so I'll get a remark in now, better late than never...)
That book looks terrific! I can handle snakes, but not spiders or slugs.
