I've been suffering from some motivational issues lately, which affected more than just crafting. In an effort to pull myself out of the slump, I continued blog-reading, scouring old magazines, sifting through my stash -- nothing helped. Plus, I hadn't started anything new since the year began, which is so unlike me. No Startitis? I must've been sick. Then, out of nowhere, I wanted a garter stitch shawl in the worst way. I started perusing patterns, feeling guilty that I still have quite a few WIPs going. But I remembered that I'd recently finished a couple of projects, so casting on wasn't as guilt-inducing as I thought it would be, especially since my go-to basket was currently empty.
Not anymore. Want to see inside?

It's the 3S Shawl (rav link), which fits my need for simple. I'll admit sometimes I treat garter stitch like the neglected stepsister of the stitch family, but really, it has its own unique beauty, doesn't it? Especially when paired with yarns that have subtle color variations that do more work than the needles.

What also helped was the fact that the sun came out at last. Everything had been so overcast and damp lately, but I do feel spring coming. There's no way I could continue to be unmotivated when the weather and yarn came together in such a beautiful way. I spent most of my weekend on our back patio soaking up the sun. I parked myself in this old chair...

...and once again, marveled at these flowers, which just suddenly bloomed, seemingly out of nowhere.

It was the perfect weekend.
Pin It Now!

Oh that is gorgeous! Gorgeous colour, squooshy yarn, lovely pattern! (I am quite in love with garter stitch right now!)
I have times when I want to make something garter stitch in the worst way. As a beginner knitter I shunned garter stitch pretty quickly and then came back round to its beauty and simplicity. Hitchhiker is one of my favourite garter patterns. Like you say, it works so well for multi-tonal yarns :)
Your shawl looks lovely, beautiful colour :)
gorgeous shawl! and i do love the color you chose, so rich and jewel-like.
and yes, i know that slump. now that you're out of it, wanna come pull me out of mine? ;-)
I'm so glad you got out of your slump! We all have those days but its what gets us motivated again. I love the shawl and I'm a little (okay, a lot) jealous that you got to soak up some sun this weekend!
I'm glad you're coming out of your slump, too! Spring always brings good things for me :)
It's great that you are feeling energized again. I am so ready to leave February behind, myself! Your gorgeous flowers and beautiful new project is a sight for sore winter eyes.
February is dubbed Funk February. I can't find inspiration either but it usually gets better once the sun peeks out.
I love your shawl and the color is just gorgeous!
I have been suffering from motivational issues in the knitting & crocheting arena too. Thinking that its mainly due to my wrist aching after a few minutes of it... 20+ are catching up to me....lol
Love the garter stitch it allows room for mindless knitting and agree the subtle color variations of that yarn speaks volume in garter stitch.
what a beautiful colour yarn! I must knit some red. Must.
What a difference it makes when the sun comes out after days of grey. It doesn't necessarily mean that my motivation goes through the roof, but at least I can look outside and smile!
That does sound like the perfect weekend! And I love your new shawl choice - what a gorgeous color!
Oh gorgeous! Never feel guilty about the wips. It's your knitting I always say-the one place where you can do whatever the heck you want.
