I bound off the striped sweater yesterday (after its little time-out), but I’m not quite done yet. Still left to do:
- Weave in ends
- Knit a neckline
- Sew underarm seams
- Weave in ends
- Block
- Weave in ends
Oh, did I mention I have a boatload of ends to weave in? It’s not that I cut the yarn after every stripe, because I definitely didn’t do that. When I was good at remembering things, I remembered to bring my working yarn under the unused colors and carry them up the side. When my memory slipped, I forgot all about it, got engrossed in knitting, then found super-long floats. Plus, with the way the pattern is, rounds don’t always start in the same spot, so I had to cut yarn at times, leaving me with a lot of ends.
What I learned is that I probably won’t knit another raglan with stripes, at least not stripes this skinny. I had an idea once I hit the raglan, and I gradually decreased my stripes from three rows to two to one. Just a little design inspiration I had.
Otherwise, there was an awful lot of remembering I had to do, between the “decrease stitches for raglan and at the same time, decrease at neckline” every 2 rows 55 times, every 4 rows 9 times, or when the rooster crows outside. Just joking — but whenever I see instructions that say “at the same time,” I get a little sweaty. I had post-it notes everywhere.
But it’s almost done, and that’s what counts, right?

i avoid stripes for the very reason that i dislike weaving in ends and am awful at remembering to work those strands in under working yarn because i’m usually watching a movie while i knit. despite all the ends, it looks fabulous!!!
Pretty Sweater and once you have a glass of wine and find a good tv show… you will have those ends weaved in no time.

All the ends! Oh dear! I have planned a stripy cardi for my small person soon. I wonder if that is wise? But yours does look so good! And I bet it will be loved, which will make all those ends worth it!
Yikes! The final weaving in of ends. That’s just the worst, isn’t it? Well, that and button bands. But almost there! And it looks really cute, so it’ll be worth it!
I love the way the stripes narrow towards the top, and the colours are beautiful. But all those ends, ugh not fun!
I know what you mean about “at the same time” instructions – I end up writing out a line by line version of the pattern so I remember which rows have which parts of the instructions!

Oh, it is looking SO good so far! Just hunker down with some fun music and a box of chocolates and get those ends woven in! Those beautiful stripes were worth the aggravation.

The stripes are lovely!!! Happy colors!!! It will be worth all the “tucking”!!! (I took a class once from Anna Zillbourg; she adamantly said she NEVER tucks in ends—they are on the inside of her sweaters and who is going to see them except her!) I still tuck!
