Pattern: Peaks'n'Valleys Chevron Socks from Knit Socks!
Yarn: Regia Cotton Surf Color (had forever)
Needles: US size 1 (2.25 mm)

Once again, I'm amazed at how long it took me to complete this pair of socks. Actually, only the first sock took so long (4 months or so). Unbelievable, right? They were supposed to be a Christmas gift last year.
Sigh.
Sigh.

Then they were earmarked for a Valentine's Day gift. Mm hmm. Didn't happen.
About one week ago, faced with #1 Girl's impending Confirmation, I cast on for sock #2. Finish a sock in a week? Me? Unheard of!
Because my sock-making usually follows this kind of timeline:
Day 1: Start sock #1, full of ENTHUSIASM and ZEAL!!!
Days 2-3: Still EXCITED!
Rest of Week 1 - End of Month 1: Somewhat lackadaisical, but muster up excitement somehow.
Months 2-3: Sock? What sock??
Month 4: Finish sock #1 and don't even entertain the prospect of sock #2
Month 6, maybe 7 or 8: Begin sock #2, can't remember anything about sock #1, wonder if I had any issues (notes? what notes?)
Month 9 'til maybe Year 1: Finish sock #2 at some point and vow to never take as long to finish a pair of socks again!
Yeah. Right.

Yeah. Right.

But this time, I was DETERMINED to finish sock #2 and I only had a week in which to do it. I know knitters finish one sock within a week all the time (sometimes a complete pair) so I knew it could be done.
I tried to devise a new (and much, much faster timeline), where I'd knit the leg in two days, turn the heel on day 3, finish the gusset and begin the foot on day 4, finish the foot on day 5 and complete that sucker on day 6.
And you know what? I did it!!! Friday night, while #1 Girl was at yet another dance, I kitchenered those toes, weaved in ends and wrapped these babies.

This is a particularly big deal because she's been asking for handknit socks for a long time, but I was waiting for her feet to stop growing like weeds in my vegetable garden. I think her feet are holding at their current size for a while, so hopefully, she'll get plenty of wear out of these socks, which only took her mom five months to finish. Pin It Now!
