Montego Bay Scarf

Here's my last FO on the blog this year.

Montego Bay Scarf

Pattern: Montego Bay Scarf, Interweave Knits, Summer 07
Yarn: HandMaiden Sea Silk, color "Bronze"
Needles: US 8 (5 mm)
Modifications: None

I loved this project when I first saw it in the magazine last summer. I loved the simplicity of it; there were times when I had to set it aside for weeks at a time, but I could always come back to it & pick up where I'd left off without even looking at the pattern. Simple, beautiful mindlessness. It became my soccer practice, then basketball practice WIP.

The yarn is wonderful--very soft & it just glides. I used bamboo needles so it wouldn't just slither off my needles at every opportunity. I washed the scarf, but didn't block it; it's going to curl anyway, which lends to the casual silkiness of it. It has a great drape to it, too. It's long; I have it wrapped around my neck about 3 times.

Happy New Year's, all! Have a safe one. May 2008 bring us much joy, peace and of course, yarn.

Knit More in 2008

When it comes to knitting, I have an "all or nothing" attitude. Let me change that: I had an all or nothing attitude. I didn't do a lot of knitting this past year because if I couldn't sit down & devote as much time as I wanted (at least an hour, uninterrupted), I figured, why bother? So I'd read instead or watch TV because the thought of something or someone cutting into my knitting time (making me miscount, forcing me to stop what I'm doing, etc.) was unbearable.

Not anymore. I'm entering 2008 with a new attitude. Socks don't knit themselves (were that it were so). If I only have time for 1 row, that's 1 row closer than I was. If I have to sit the knitting on the kitchen counter while I cook & sneak in some rows, that's what I'll do. While my love for knitting waxes and wanes, I have to take advantage while I'm in an in-love phase, like now.

For the past couple of days, I've knitted more than I have all month. So I finished the Montego Bay Scarf, IK Summer '07, and it's drying now. I also made some headway on Weedinator's second sock (he recently commented that I hadn't been knitting much--for once, he didn't call it "yarning" or sewing--he's learning...slowly). Work pressures have slacked somewhat, so I've been soothing myself with as much knitting as possible. Ahhhhhhh...

Merry Christmas!

In celebration of the season, I'd like to bring you this Christmas melody. Words have been changed to fit my particular situations. So sing along to....

The Twelve Days of Christmas
On the first day of Christmas, my true love gave to me
A three-week long work project.
On the second day of Christmas, my true love gave to me
Two sick kids
And a three-week long work project.
On the third day of Christmas, my true love gave to me
Three gifts to wrap
Two sick kids
And a three-week long work project.
On the fourth day of Christmas, my true love gave to me
Four hours of sleep
Three gifts to wrap
Two sick kids
And a three-week long work project.
On the fifth day of Christmas, my true love gave to me
Twenty-fiiiiiiive people to cook Christmas Eve dinner for
Four hours of sleep
Three gifts to wrap
Two sick kids
And a three-week long work project.

All I Want for Christmas
All I want for Christmas
Is a martini
Two martinis
Three martinis!

O Tannenbaum (or, O Weedinator sock)
O Weedinator sock
O Weedinator sock
How lovely is your ribbing
O Weedinator sock
O Weedinator sock
How I tried to finish you
I couldn't quite make time for two
He'll get one sock and IOU
O Weedinator sock
O Weedinator sock
You'll have a mate by April.

So, dear readers, as you can see, I've been in it up to here. Animal Magnet got over his illness just as the Dimpled One caught it. You know, one of those fun illnesses where I must be wearing a target on my shirt that says "Throw up here." Our Christmas Eve party is tonight & due to said illnesses, I've had four hours of sleep, so I'm running on caffeine & a particular brand of crazy.

Lest you think I'm complaining (heh), I'm going to leave you with this, the whole reason for this beautiful season. I hope everyone out there who celebrates Christmas has a very merry one!

And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.

Coming up for air

I can't believe it's been 3+ weeks since I blogged here. Wow. Well, to update you on what's been going on...

I thought I was being really clever when December came around. I was going to finish my month's work early & have lots of time to plan our annual Christmas Eve party. My shopping is nearly done & I was going to take it kind of easy this month. I was going to knit & finish up projects & maybe even make some design changes to this blog.

Then, work stuff happened, which, to make it easier on myself, had me cram a month's worth of assignments into 2 weeks before starting a Big Project for the latter part of this month. Do you think much knitting has been going on?

The patient sock

Sadly, no. I have 10 days to finish knitting Weedinator's socks. Remember they were originally for his birthday back in October? Then they were redesignated Christmas socks. At the rate I'm going, they'll be Valentine's Day 2009 socks. I also have other projects I wanted to finish before the end of the year, but I guess they'll welcome 2008 with me.

So. Even though no knitting has been going on & just trying to fit knitting into my overloaded brain makes it feel like it's going to blow up, I am still going to list some knitting goals for 2008. Because if I can't do it, I can at least think about it.

- Knit more for charity. My charitable knitting this year didn't go well. No reason for it, other than my laziness.
- Knit more gifts. For certain people only.
- Try a new technique, like Entrelac or steeks.
- Join a knit-along for something I've never done before.
- Keep the WIP list down to 3 or less. (hee-hee, that one's funny)

Anyone else thinking about knitting goals for next year? If so, do tell. Happy weekend, all!
