Perfect Reading Weather & Memes & Things
I was tagged by Gina. (I like these book memes.)
1. One book that changed your life: The Temple of my Familiar by Alice Walker
2. One book that you've read more than once: Harry Potter and (by J.K. Rowling)...any of the current 6
3. One book you'd want on a desert island: War & Peace by Leo Tolstoy (mainly because it's so long, it'd take me forever to finish)
4. One book that made you laugh: White Teeth by Zadie Smith
5. One book that made you cry: The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold (strangely, not the part where the girl is murdered, but when the family dog joins her in her heaven)
6. One book that you wish had been written: How to Make Your Husband Do Whatever You Want Using Methods Both Evil & Benign
7. One book you wish had never been written: I can't remember the title or author, that's how horrible it was. The guy was a Stephen King wanna-be
8. One book you're currently reading: Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil by John Berendt
9. One book you've been meaning to read: Moby Dick by Herman Melville
10. Tag 6 people: Stephanie, Marce, Jae, Sean, Sharon, Harlem Purl
See, this is my perfect reading weather. Or used to be, back around 1996 B.C. (Before Children). I used to be able to snuggle under the covers and read all day if I wanted; the rain just made it more cozy. Now, on rainy days (especially when it thunders), we all just snuggle under the covers together and watch the water come down. Still not a bad way to spend the day.

Padding the stash
I have about 10 balls of this. It was originally intended for a shawl, but I found other yarn for the shawl. I had no other intentions for this; it wasn't going to be anything for me because blue isn't my color. The latest Interweave Knits & Vogue Knitting both have patterns featuring mohair. The one in Vogue makes the model look sleek & sophisticated. The one in IK makes the normally cute redhead look like Sasquatch. 5 words here: I don't need the bulk. I already have 3 children, a husband & a minivan. I don't need a thick, hairy sweater to take my Sexiness Quotient down to negative points.Besides, me in blue mohair may make me look like this...
So I'm sticking it back in the stash until I decide what to do with it. My problem is that I'm a yarn hoarder. Once I buy it, it's mine & will stay mine until you can pry it from my cold, dead fingers. That's why I have all that acrylic from the baby blanket I no longer plan to knit. All the acrylic is sitting in its own pile, which I've taken to calling Pastel Hill. There are many other random balls in the stash, which have no purpose other than to pad it. Padding the Stash. Now there's a name for a rock band. Pin It Now!

Thelma talks

Hi all, this is embossed leaves sock #1, otherwise known as Thelma. Can you believe I'm still single, a beautiful sock like me? It's Del's fault that I don't have my buddy, Louise, with me. Now Del is going to tell you that she had a busy weekend & that it's a miracle that even I got finished. Whatever. She'll tell you she's into project monogamy & all that, but between you & me, she finished another dishcloth this weekend. Mmm hmm...I'm thinking the same thing. Trollop.
Note from Del: I did have a busy weekend & was up at 5:30 Saturday & Sunday (that's A.M. & it wasn't by choice. Thanks, C!). I plan to start Louise today, if for no other reason than to shut Thelma up. Nice toe, though, isn't it? I like it because it doesn't require grafting; you just decrease down to 8 stitches, then pull a needle through to close it up.Between you & me, I did that dishcloth to escape Thelma's complaining. Yeah, I'm thinking the same thing...insufferable broad. Pin It Now!

Sometimes you need a quickie

They're as addictive as those little Dove chocolates I love (and clearly love my hips right back), which is why I'm casting on for another.
Pattern: Ballband Dishcloth from...oh, if you don't know by now! Mason-Dixon Knitting
Yarn: Sugar 'n Cream in White & Key Lime Pie
I'm going to try & finish those embossed leaves sock this weekend, or at least make headway on sock #2 (making headway usually works out better if you've at least started; guess who hasn't yet started on #2). SIL's birthday is coming up & in keeping with my current Finish It Early regimen, I want to get those done so that I can move on to other things (like socks for myself--what a new concept for me!). Gifts, blogs & dishcloths
Whimsical Knitting recently wondered what exactly was in that little lavender pouch I sent to my Secret Sistah Friend (the knitter I'm gifting), so here's her blog with all the goodies listed. Man, she's fast and she knits some beautiful things.
I wonder who the Secret Sistah Friend is who's gifting me, however. I hope to soon find out!
In other news, I'm currently knitting that obscenely popular Ballband Dishcloth from Mason-Dixon Knitting. I'm sure I'm one of the last holdouts. If you're among the other 10 knitters in the whole wide world who haven't yet knitted this project, raise your hand. But you know you'll knit it eventually. As each one of us knits the dishcloths, we send subliminal messages to those not yet inducted: Must.Knit.Ballband.Dishcloths.

Your package is in the mail
I know this looks familiar, Sara! *wink wink*
Pattern: Soft drawstring pouch from Last-Minute Knitted Gifts
Yarn: KnitPicks Palette in Hyacinth
This is for my Secret Sistah Friend, which I'm squeaking by before deadline. I hope she likes it, along with the other goodies I'm sending her way. On to those dishcloths! Pin It Now!

I had a date last night
With this...
and these...
I'm sure that wine is probably in the wrong glass, for all you sideways-loving wine aficianados out there, but after the day I had yesterday, I should be commended for not chugging straight from the bottle.
VK Fall '06 is fabulous. The articles seem especially good this issue & for all of us sock-lovers, there are cool patterns--some very funky, some more traditional.
So after Hell's Kitchen went off (DH has totally sucked me in to bad TV), I settled in with the magazines. Everyone else was asleep, so it was me & my 3 dates. I could've added my embossed leaves sock to the party, but that just would've been kinky. Pin It Now!
